Acceptance and Healing

I tried something different lately. I tried believing that everything was ok (even if there was proof to say otherwise). I leaned into believing that everything would turn out the way it was supposed to and for my best interest. I went into acceptance vs. resistance of the obstacles in my life. I could continue to go against the waves or ride them.

So often we get stuck in thinking about what is not right in our lives. This causes us to be hyper-focused on the negatives. In doing so we end up creating unhealthy hormones being pumped into our body as our system believes we are in crisis/danger when we only see the negatives. That takes a toll on us. This is when our body hurts, when we get sick, when we are so stressed we make mistakes, have accidents, etc. 

What happened when I leaned into acceptance?

Well, the actual crisis situation did not disappear but the solutions suddenly unfolded with little effort. Before that, I was making myself dizzy with my mind spinning with all the scenarios and solutions I could come up with - that all just led to more anxiety. But as soon as I surrendered to acceptance of my situation, and not view it as the end of the world, I began to trust that the universe will guide me on how to get out of the situation. I just had to stop all the noise I was creating in my mind. 

Some people are religious or spiritual and see this as putting things in god’s hands or trusting in the divine. Some believe it is the universe providing. It does not matter what your belief system is, because there is also science to back up that once we are out of fight or flight mode we are operating better, thinking more clearly, and able to access parts of our brain we could not when in a stress response. You can believe in both the divine power and science or just one or the other, either way, the results are the same. Acceptance is the key!  Believing that you are ok, and will be ok is the magic in making it so. The power of the mind is so incredibly powerful!

I give this guidance to my clients all the time, but life always has a funny way of making sure I have plenty of opportunities to remember to use it myself. I am not an expert in doing this for myself. It takes practice and work, even for a mental health therapist and energy worker. A big part of the work is feeling the feelings that come with the obstacle. We have to lean into the emotions that come up, process them, and release them in the most timely function we can.  Then we can let them go and get back to believing we are ok as soon as possible. 

The problems arise when we do one of two things:  

  1. We stay in the pain and don’t move through it, keeping us in the stress response. 

  2. We ignore the emotions and avoid feeling them, thus they become energy or baggage that lives in our bodies and system. This creates a stress response all over again. 

To have acceptance and trust, we have to process the feelings that come up with the crisis or obstacle. This is why I love Energy Psychology so much! Energy Psychology helps move the blocked emotions in our system out while we process them.  My absolute favorite energy psychology modality is Advanced Integrative Therapy ( AIT).  This uses our energy centers (also known as Chakras) to shift the baggage we store in our bodies and systems. It is a top-down approach to releasing or washing away the heaviness. 

This is what I do with my clients in a deep thorough process. We work on treating what is happening now and on healing the past which contributes to how we respond and react to what is happening now.
